Bio

Born and raised in Inkster, Michigan, just a stone’s throw from the vibrant heart of Detroit, my passion for education and empowering communities through learning took root from an early age. As a passionate educator committed to driving positive change, I have dedicated my career to unlocking the transformative power of education.

My journey began with a B.S. in Liberal Studies from Grand Valley State University, followed by an M.A. in TESOL from The City College of New York, and an Ed.M. in Public School Building Leadership from Teachers College at Columbia University. Since 2016, I have had the privilege of working in schools across New York City, firmly believing that education is the sharpest tool for creating meaningful transformation within communities.

It was during my time as an educator in the city’s public schools that I witnessed firsthand the sharp disparities in access to technology and educational resources, a harsh reality that was further exacerbated by the pandemic. Some students were considered, while others were left behind. This sparked an unwavering mission within me – to normalize tech education for every child, addressing the glaring inequities that had been laid bare.

With my extensive background in diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) work, coupled with my experiences in the classroom, I was driven to bridge the tech industry’s divide for students of color. Thus, TEquity in Action was born – a nonprofit after-school program in Newark that equips these underrepresented students with invaluable coding, AI, and web design skills. Seeing their eyes light up as they unlock new possibilities fills me with immense pride and determination to keep pushing forward.

Extending my impact beyond the classroom, TEquity in Action empowers the next generation with the tools and knowledge necessary to thrive in the digital age, breaking down barriers and creating equal opportunities for all.

When not immersed in my educational endeavors or nonprofit initiatives, I indulge in a variety of personal passions that bring me joy and fulfillment. From the therapeutic art of baking to the exhilaration of exploring new cities on two wheels, I embrace every opportunity to broaden my horizons and experience the richness of life. And if you ever have the chance to share a dish with me, be prepared to instantly win my heart – good food is the quickest way to mine!

At my core lies an unwavering commitment to empowering others through the transformative power of learning. Whether in the classroom, through TEquity in Action, or in my personal pursuits, I strive to create a more equitable and inclusive world, one where every individual has the opportunity to reach their full potential.
